Length of employment

There has not been much updating of the job opportunities of this blog for a while, as these have been updated directly on www.richemondasia.com/opportunities instead. You may click on the link or any other links on this website to access the various positions available on the main website.

Job-Hop

With the recent survey by Robert Walters has indicated that 61% of Singaporeans plan to job-hop within next 3 months. While some may view this growing economy as an ideal time for a career move, the issue here is that the right time for each individual to move is different.

As an employer, some of the criteria for shortlisting potential candidates include the right skills, right work attitude, right personality, among many others. Some employers do not view too positively on candidates with short durations of employments in various companies. Employers fear that such job-hoppers may not stay long in the company.

The cost involved in the hiring process, induction and getting the new hire up to speed may not be worth the while if this new hire jumps ship after few months due to a buoyant job market. This is regardless of the specialty of the candidates skills/knowledge.

As such, the common acceptance of a candidates’ period of employment with each company is at least 1.5-2 years, while many employers might feel more comfortable with a longer period. Hence, do not jump on the job-hop bandwagon, but evaluate your current situation before deciding on a move.

New Generation

Also noting that the new generation require regular engagements, many companies has implemented regular job-rotations, rewards & recognition programs. If job-rotation is the new way to ensure regular engagements for the new generation, the future workforce might see more “Jack of all trades” and fewer specialists.
